MY NAME IS KHAN: Silence creates huge hype!

Some movies remain in the news unintentionally (or deliberately) from announcement to the day of their actual release. 'Secret' inside scoops are leaked to the media/scribes, trade experts invited to the shooting, cast members seen on live shows and the main protagonists appear at public events in their (supposedly secret!) get ups to keep the film in the headlines, by hook or crook!

However, certain makers prefer to concentrate on their work and focus on the most important aspect of filmmaking, the script and its implementation. One such project is the Karan Johar directed, MY NAME IS KHAN, which marks the return of the hundred percent successful SRK-Kajol jodi.

Despite the enormity of the project, nothing much has been heard about the film except that King Khan plays a character inflicted by the Asperger's disease, whose love interest-cum-better-half is essayed by Kajol.

While a major portion of the shooting took place in the US, there was an extended shooting schedule at Mumbai's Film City that ended on the 1st of October 2009, thus completing the film. Even though members of the fourth estate are normally invited for such concluding portions, Karan preferred not to follow the norm and the only snatches one heard (unofficially) was that there were a few disaster and rescue scenes, canned around a water filled ditch in Film City.

That brings us back to our headlines! After the red and predominantly blue official poster (with the US flag colours in the background) of MY NAME IS KHAN, the next official information from the makers is that the trailer of MNIK will be carried in the prints of James 'TITANIC' Cameroon's AVATAR, on December 18th. And that has the fans and most cine lovers thirsting to know more about one of the most anticipated film of 2010.

DE DANA DAN climax inspired by Hollywood classic THE TOWERING INFERNO

Even though, Priyadarshan's DE DANA DAN is touted as laugh-a-minute affair, its climax is inspired by THE TOWERING INFERNO (1974), which had set new standards for disaster genre.

The plot of this Hollywood classic required extinguishing flames by exploding the million gallon water tanks at the top of the building. Similarly, in DE DANA DAN too an entire hotel is flooded with water when a tank at the top of the building opens up. However, while in THE TOWERING INFERNO it was intentional, in DE DANA DAN it is by accident that leads to a riotous laugh fest.

Confirms Priyadarshan who agrees that this has been his most difficult shoot in a career that has spanned several decades, "Yes, I was inspired from THE TOWERING INFERNO. A tank opens by accident and all my 26 characters get washed down from top stories to the hotel lobby. It was hugely challenging to shoot these portions."

"I can stand up and say that the job done by my technicians has been at least at par with Hollywood standards if not better. The climax lasts for around 10-15 minutes and it is going to be the highlight of the film", says Priyadarshan who is seldom seen to be so gung go about a film of his.

Did Shahrukh steal the plot?

Finally the trailers of the much awaited film DULHA MIL GAYA are out. The film was in the making for a long time and SRK who has a special role in the film managed in the end to block his dates and help the film see the light of the day.

But, the story does not end here. There are disturbing reports doing the rounds that DULHA MIL GAYA shares a similar story with RAB NE BANA DI JODI, and the latter was actually inspired from the formers plot. But, if these rumours are to be believed, the big question remains, who stole the plot?

Vidya Balan: Competing with Mr. Bachchan would be preposterous

One and a half years after she was last seen in KISMAT KONNECTION, Vidya Balan would arrive on the silver screen once again in PAA. While the former was a love story, Vidya would now be graduating to playing Amitabh Bachchan's mother in the latter. Quite a shift for her, one wonders?

'When (director) Balki came to me with the script, he said that he had Mr. Bachchan, Abhishek and myself in mind. If any one of us had decided not to do the film, he wouldn't have made the film at all. You know when are people saying this for effect or just to convince an individual. However, I could see a sense of honesty in his tone and words', says Vidya who describes the reason behind signing the film, 'Also, it was an honour to be working with Mr. Bachchan.

KURBAAN's below par opening shocks the industry!

It was supposed to be a follow up to the year's biggest grosser, LOVE AAJ KAL, and a confirmation of Saif Ali Khan's position as a bankable solo hero. It was also expected to be the next production from Karan Johar that was to have continued the cent per cent (KAL HO NAA HO, KAAL, DOSTANA and WAKE UP SID) success record of Dharma Productions.

Expect some fireworks at the very beginning of the year as festivities and celebrations continue from New Year celebrations to the entire month of January. There are number of movies lined up for release with massive battle in the happening ever since Karan Johar announced 12th January as the D-day for the arrival of Shah Rukh Khan starrer MY NAME IS KHAN. There is an around frenzy amongst movies to arrive in January since no big film is risking competing with one of the first huge films of 2009.

Two such films are CHANCE PE DANCE and ISHQIYA that have penciled in 15th January for their arrival on the big screen. Incidentally, the central protagonists of these films are Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan respectively, both of whom were seen together as a pair in KISMAT KONNECTION.

Both films were originally meant to arrive in 2009. However, Shahid Kapoor had two back-to-back releases in the form of KAMINEY and DIL BOLE HADIPPA and it made sense for him to space out his film. On the other hand ISHQIYA had to keep its release on hold since there was a flurry of releases in the last quarter of 2009.

Shahid Kapoor's best buddy revealed!

After an extensive search finally actor Shahid Kapoor has found his best buddy! Well, well we are talking about his reel life buddy and not referring to his personal life, which he generally prefers to keep under wraps.

Buzz is that Indian Idol Season 3 finalist Meiyung Chang has been signed to play Shahid Kapoor's best pal in the upcoming Yash Raj film, which is being directed by actor-turned-director Parmeet Sethi. Apparently the makers wanted a fresh face to play Shahid's friend. So after auditioning almost a dozen newcomers, they finalized Chang.

However, Yash Raj people, as usual, have told him to keep his lips sealed till the film releases.

Canadian PM’s special invite for Akki

The Winter Olympics is to be held in February in Vancouver (Canada) and our Bollywood Stunt King will be there to represent India as a torchbearer. Being the only celebrity from the Indian front, Akshay Kumar seemed to be feeling on the top. "This is a huge honour and I cannot describe how humbled I feel to be asked to run with the Olympic torch," said Akki. Besides this, the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is said to have invited the actor over for lunch today. This exclusive meeting was pre-planned. Akki and his wife will be dining with Harper and his wife, according to the sources.

There is going to be a special ceremony today where Stephen Harper will be handing over the Olympic torch to Akshay.

Big B's rescue mission

Yesterday, when Big B was busy promoting his film PAA and signing autographs for his fans outside his residence, the fan frenzy became like a mini melee and two elderly women were caught up in this confusion. Had it not been for Big B, the two women, who had become almost breathless, would have landed in serious trouble. But, Big B came to their rescue and offered them some breathing space in the cozy confines of his bungalow much to their relief. Finally they were offered refreshments and later escorted away from the mob frenzy. Well, call it Big B's noble gesture.

Saif Ali Khan: I don't know if KURBAAN is an award winning act

He has been delivering consistently at the box office with two super hits in two years (LOVE AAJ KAL and RACE). Now that he is days away from the release of KURBAAN, he isn't willing to skyrocket his expectations and is instead waiting for audiences reaction.
